It takes us all working together The City Attorney's Office is seeking a part-time law clerk for the summer of 2026, with possible extension into academic year 2026 - 2027. The person in this position will be under the direction and supervision of a licensed attorney.

Work Schedule:

The Office's normal hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours dependent on academic hours sought. Flexible, typically 30 hours per week.

Start Date:

Flexible, based on law student academic schedule

Compensation:

$21.01 to 22.59 per hour; would welcome Federal Work Study Program eligibility (City would supplement to $22.59/hour) and accommodate academic credit earned through the law school Applications will be accepted through Friday, April 17, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (noon)

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct legal research and writing Courtroom appearances including in-custody arraignments, out-of-custody arraignments, first and initial appearances, settlement conferences, and other trial calendar matters Negotiate plea offers with opposing counsel and self-represented litigants Draft plea petitions Work with victim and witness liaisons Assist with trial preparations Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Completion of at least one year at an ABA accredited law school Current Certified Student Attorney or ability to become certified promptly upon hire

Desirable Qualifications:

Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom Familiarity with

Westlaw Additional Information:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of basic criminal law and procedure Skill in professional communication and developing effective working relationships Ability of appraise and organize facts Ability to think quickly on one's feet and adapt to evolving case situations Ability to interact professionally with the bench, other attorneys, and the public
