Law Clerk (County Attorney) Shelby County Government - 3.6 Memphis, TN Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Qualifications Statutory legal research Law Serving legal documents Legal document sorting and filing Regulatory legal research Courtroom procedure Legal argument analysis Court case file organization Entry level File organization Office record organization Full Job Description Position Summary Works under direct supervision of an assigned supervisor to be responsible for researching legal data for briefs or arguments based on statutory law or decisions.
Pay Grade:
41H Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university and enrolled in an accredited law school as a rising second-year law student or higher; OR An equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.
PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities Searches for and studies legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration. Prepares legal memoranda, drafts of briefs/arguments and other relevant paperwork. Files pleadings with court clerk. Serves copies of pleadings on opposing counsel. Drafts correspondence, affidavits and files documentation as requested. Performs other related duties as directed or assigned. KSAs General knowledge of legal terms and court proceedings. Ability to conduct legal research and to prepare drafts of legal documents. Ability to establish and maintain a system of files. Ability to work with co-workers and the public with courtesy and tact. A writing sample may be requested. Disclaimer This position is subject to a background check for any convictions that have a substantial relationship to potential job duties. Shelby County Resident Disclaimer All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment. The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department. The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
