DESCRIPTION
BENEFITS QUESTIONS Job Summary Under direct supervision, performs legal research, assists with drafting legal documents, and provides assistance to Assistant City Attorneys. Assists with other routine attorney duties, limited to those that are not required to be performed by a licensed attorney. Exercises no supervision. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason. Work Location Frank D. Wing Municipal Court Building

  • Friday (work hours may vary) Essential Job Functions Assists with drafting and reviewing contracts, real estate documents, and agreements.
Assists with drafting legislation, code provisions, regulations, ordinances, amendments, resolutions, and guidelines or policies. Assists with responding to inquiries from the general public and media about public information and municipal regulations and procedures. Researches points of law using case books, statutes, and other legal materials. Compiles data, statistics, or other information related to legal work for reports. May be asked to attend or assist in public meetings of City Council, boards, or commissions. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Job Requirements J.D. Degree from an accredited school of law. No substitution for education allowed. Must pass the Texas bar exam and become licensed attorney within 12 months of hire. Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions. Applicant Information Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and practices. Skill in researching and analyzing legal problems. Skill in analyzing facts, legal problems, and strategizing with other attorneys and City staff. Ability to prepare drafts of legal documents. Ability to gather evidence and other legal information. Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic computer equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
