Sheriffs Detentions Senior Deputy - Shift - Department Promotional

4/22/26 This is a Department Promotional Examination and is open to eligible employees of the Sheriff's Office.

Shift pay:

5% additional pay for evening shift work; 7 ½ % additional pay for night shift work. Applicants must be willing to work any shift of a 24-hour period and any 5 of 7 days.

Examinations:

Written Exam (Weight 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of the behavior of inmates in a custody environment; California Board of Corrections standards; principles of corrections; disciplinary measures applicable at a correctional facility; state laws, rules, regulations and guidelines applicable to governing the confinement of inmates; principles and practices of supervision and other relevant subjects. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process. The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant a written exam. Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during the scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location without exception.

Employment Standards:

Two years of experience as a Sheriff's Detentions Deputy. Possession of a valid PC 832 firearms certificate. Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of employment. Specialized licenses required for some assignments. Applicants must attach a copy of their PC 832 Firearms certificate to their application.
