About The Position:
We are seeking a dynamic leader and visible member of the campus community who understands and celebrates community policing and the educational and service role of policing within an institution of higher education to serve as its next Chief of Police. The Chief will lead the department, while providing supervision and strategic direction to all command, line, and auxiliary employees. The Chief also supervises the campus Lock Shop and the Office of Emergency Management. Work will be mainly day shift, but the successful candidate must be willing to work some nights, holidays, weekends, and recall as needed to meet department objectives and university needs.
The University Police Department (UPD) provides law enforcement services to protect the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors to the university. We are part of the Enrollment and Student Success division, which supports a student's entire collegiate experience from the point of admission through to graduation. We partner with students, faculty and staff to provide a network of opportunities and services that lead to student success. Collectively, the division of Enrollment and Student Success positively influences the health, safety and well-being of the student body. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Current NYDCJS Police Officer Certification
Ten (10) years minimum of progressive law enforcement experience including at least eight (8) years in a supervisory or management capacity
Working knowledge of all compliance mandates for campus law enforcement including, but not limited to, Clery, VAWA,Title VI, and Title IX
Ability to accurately and timely prepare the campus Annual Security and Fire Report
Certified in Incident Command System (ICS) 300 or greater
Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to motivate subordinates in a constructive, disciplined manner
Commitment to participating in and promoting ongoing education, training, and professional development
Demonstrated experience developing productive relationships with various internal and external constituents, including the ability to develop them with students
Record of success in managing and completing complex projects in a timely manner
Valid driver's license and successful completion of a background investigation that includes fingerprinting
Residency within a thirty-minute response time to the university within 30 days of appointment
A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administrators
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's Degree
Experience working in an Accredited Police Department including working with and serving diverse populations
Completion of leadership training (i.e, FBI National Academy, FBI LEEDS, SMIP, etc.)
Familiarity with SUNY
Experience with budgeting in a work setting
Salary (Applicant View) $115,000 minimum, plus excellent benefits
