Job Description
New College of Florida is accepting applications for an Interim Chief of Police. This position will be responsible for planning and execution of professional police and security services for the protection of people and property at locations comprising New College of Florida (NCF). This is accomplished through the effective enforcement of State and Federal laws, applicable municipal ordinances, and applicable NCF rules and regulations.
The Chief is responsible for formulating, approving and implementing policies, procedures, rules and regulations governing the successful accomplishments of law enforcement and public safety division activities. The Chief is responsible for assisting in the development of policy statements to be promulgated by NCF in matters relating to personal safety and property security. The Chief is responsible for the interpretation of the Florida State Statutes as they pertain to the police and security functions and their applications thereto. The Chief is responsible for developing, staffing and directing an organization capable of providing the following: 1) identifying, investigating, arresting and assisting in the prosecution of people who commit crimes; 2) recovering stolen and lost property, identifying the owners and ensuring prompt return; 3) facilitating the safe and orderly movement of people and vehicles; 4) minimizing the occurrence of deterrable crimes; 5) providing for crime prevention and other programs which assist persons in safeguarding themselves and their possessions; 6) assisting those who cannot care for themselves or arranging such assistance; 7) creating and maintaining a feeling of respect for and confidence in the Police Department on the part of the citizens of our community; 8) ensuring that taxpayers receive the greatest benefit for the dollars expended for police services. Knowledge of legal processes, criminal justice system, law enforcement principles and techniques. Ability to supervise people. Knowledge of budget preparation and accounting. Ability to communicate effectively with subordinates and the public orally and in writing. Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to interpret collective bargaining agreements. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to analyze and interpret law enforcement data. Knowledge of investigative procedures. Ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner. Other duties as assignedMaster's degree in criminal justice, law enforcement or related field or six years of applicable law enforcement or criminal justice experience.
Experience in a college or university law enforcement agency or department preferred.
