Starting pay:
$74,964/year ($36.04/hour) Year 1: $77,418/year ($37.22/hour) Year 3: $81,495/year (39.18/hour) 3-day weekends (6 days on / 3 days off) Take-home patrol vehicles 38 paid days off annually No experience required About the Community Monroe County is home to Indiana University Bloomington, creating a unique mix of small-town community and vibrant city atmosphere.
Deputies gain experience handling:
Large-scale events and game day operations Diverse calls for service A wide range of proactive policing opportunities The area also offers excellent restaurants, nightlife, large scale sporting events and outdoor recreation. It is also home to Lake Monroe, Indiana's largest lake. Job Overview Deputy Sheriffs serve a vital role in protecting the community through law enforcement, emergency response, and proactive policing. This position requires integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to public service.

Key Responsibilities Enforce local, state, and federal laws Serve warrants and court orders Conduct investigations and prepare reports Respond to emergency calls and provide first aid/CPR Identify and prevent criminal activity Resolve conflicts safely and professionally Work with other agencies on joint operations Maintain accurate records of all law enforcement activity Minimum Requirements Must be 21 years old at time of appointment High school diploma or GED No felony convictions Strong integrity and commitment to public service No prior law enforcement experience required. Pay & Benefits- Compensation & Incentives Shift differential: up to $2,000/year Education pay:
Associate's:

Bachelor's:

Master's:
$2,500 Specialty pay (up to $1,000/year):
Bike Team, Drone Team, Dive Team, CIRT, Hostage Negotiator, Crash Reconstructionist, Drug Recognition Expert Field Training Officer:
$1,000/year Instructor pay: $500/year Time Off 38 paid days off annually (after first year) 10 vacation days 16 floating holidays 12 personal days Vacation begins after 6 months Personal days accrue immediately Equipment & Perks Take-home vehicles (in surrounding counties) $1,600 annual uniform allowance Off-duty employment & overtime opportunities Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance Paid parental leave County health clinic access Pension + 457(b) retirement option Training (ILEA)Recruits must complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (18-week residential program) within their first year (or receive a waiver if already certified).
