5 yrs Required License/Registration/Certification Police Certification Physical Requirements Lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 100 lbs., sitting for long periods of time, walking for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, handling intermittent periods of high levels of stress. Shift Primarily Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. May be required to work outside these hours for special assignments or events.
Police Lieutenants must be able to work overtime especially in high volume seasons (university move in, football, basketball, etc.), change shifts, work special duty events, and attend meetings. Job Summary University of Kentucky Police Lieutenants are responsible for providing the University community with a safe and secure environment in which to work, live and learn. The department is service oriented and specializes in meeting the needs of the campus' population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The major job responsibilities of the University of Kentucky Police Lieutenant include supervision and management; operations management; training and staff development; and professional development and training. Specific duties include supervising a unit, conducting security and risk assessments, developing and training staff, scheduling staff appropriately, providing security and traffic control for special University events, and completing University and law enforcement related reports. Police Lieutenants shall positively interact, enhance relations, and represent the University with local law enforcement and community partners.
