Serves as the Department Head (in the absence of the Assistant Director of Security or Police Major), supervises the activities of the Police Sergeants; lower- level Police Officers; Investigators (Compliance, Criminal, Police) Dispatchers and Guards. Carries out police and security activities for the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District's (Port of Lake Charles) Harbor Police Department, by enforcing federal, state and municipal laws as well as the rules and tariffs of the Port of Lake Charles. Enforces Federal maritime laws and regulations under the guidance of the U. S. Coast Guard as mandated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Minimum Qualifications Four years of law enforcement experience.EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Plans, coordinates, and oversees all police operations for the department. Directs and coordinates the daily activities of the department Arranges work schedules and ensures that time has been submitted to timekeeper; Ensures that all leave slips are properly filled out and submitted Acts as Facility Security Officer (FSO) and/or alternate Facility Security Officer (AFSO), when required, in administering and monitoring security measures for the Port Oversees the training needs of department personnel and manages the field training program Assists with budget planning for the Harbor Police Department Interviews prospective employees, recommends disciplinary action, and counsels subordinates on work related problems Reviews accident and incident reports generated by subordinates to ensure accuracy; Writes employee evaluation reports Ensures that the Command and Control Center is manned and functioning properly; Ensures that officers are monitoring the surveillance system, Automatic Identification System (AIS), and emergency telephonePosition-Specific Details:

The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Physical abilities such as standing, stooping, bending, walking, running, pushing, pulling, (subduing persons who are resisting arrest), climbing (such as gangplanks; 5 to 10 flights of stairs to ships' control rooms), lifting 30 pounds or more (such as 110-pound bags of various commodities; removing an injured person from danger); work outdoors in all types of weather and work around waterfront are required in order to fulfill the duties of this position.How To Apply:
