OUR MISSION TO ACTIVELY CREATE, FACILITATE AND ENHANCE BENEFITS FROM MARITIME TRANSPORTATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FOR THE BENEFIT OF ITS CUSTOMERS, STAKEHOLDERS, AND THE CITIZENS OF SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Supervises a shift of subordinate Police Officers, Guards and Communications Officers (Dispatchers) while carrying out police and security activities for the Lake Charles Harbor and Terminal District's (Port of Lake Charles) Harbor Police Department, by enforcing federal, state and municipal laws as well as the rules and tariffs of the Port of Lake Charles; Enforces Federal maritime laws and regulations under the guidance of the U. S. Coast Guard and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as mandated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Minimum Qualifications Three years of law enforcement experience.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties:
Supervises subordinate employees; reviews their work performance and discusses this with them; Writes employee evaluation reports Makes a number of patrols of the District's properties based on current Maritime Security (MARSEC) level and responds to all major occurrences while on duty Boards vessels being docked and meets with the ship's Captain or ship's Vessel Security Officer (VSO) and informs him/her of the security requirements in place at the Port of Lake Charles, the requirements of Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and the TWIC escort requirements Remains familiar with State laws, Local laws and District tariffs, as well as gains knowledge of new technology by participating in available outside and interdepartmental training Supervises the preparation and maintenance of departmental records and reports by reviewing records completed by subordinates and periodically inspecting systems and facilities for maintaining such to ensure that records are moved to the appropriate designation Utilize enforcement tools (verbal warnings and citations) and execute arrest when required. Comply with all Agency and Department policies, procedures and directives Supervises and participates, with subordinates and contracted security, in scheduled vehicles searches, Driver's License and Vehicle Insurance checks of vehicles entering or exiting Port properties

Compensation:
The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Physical abilities such as standing, stooping, bending, walking, running, pushing, pulling, (subduing persons who are resisting arrest), climbing (such as gangplanks; 5 to 10 flights of stairs to ships' control rooms), lifting 30 pounds or more (such as 110-pound bags of various commodities; removing an injured person from danger); work outdoors in all types of weather and work around waterfront are required in order to fulfill the duties of this position.
