Job Description

A Police O?cer Supervisor is the supervisory level of law enforcement at the College. Employees in this classi?cation supervise police o?cers and Building Security personnel. This position receives general supervision from the Deputy Director of and the Director of Public Safety. This position relates to the mission of the College by providing a safe environment for students, sta? and the surrounding community. Your continued employment is contingent upon your receiving certi?cation as a sworn police o?cer from the MPTC upon application. You will be an at-will employee, serving at the discretion of the President. Directs and supervises the activities and functions of assigned sta?; Trains and instructs police o?cers concerning post assignments, tra?c control, alarm controls and communications apparatus. Ensures the accurate preparation and completion of a variety of reports and forms to support public safety at the college, may include ?nancial, statistical or special reports; Develops and maintains procedures to govern tra?c and parking on BCCC's campuses. Assists the Director and/or Deputy Director of Public Safety in the management and maintenance of the department's inventory of evidence. Performs a full level of law enforcement: enforcing laws, rules and regulations governing the safety and protection of personnel and State property. Ensure all posts are sta?ed, making periodic rounds throughout the shift. Coordinates sta? e?orts in the enforcement of criminal laws and agency rules and regulations. Conducts investigations with the authority and supervision of the Director and Deputy Director of Public Safety. Testi?es in court in connection with arrests made during shift. Directs and participates in rendering aid at the scene of emergencies. Authorizes use of Criminal Information Justice System by subordinate sta?. Supervises, directs and assists with tra?c and crowd control. Collaborates with local and state law enforcement agencies. Conducts community related public safety programs. Provides the College community with safety information. Interacts with college community and establishes rapport with the public. Other related duties as assigned. High School Diploma or GED At least 5 years supervisory experience. At least 7 years exp. working in law enforcement. Must be currently employed as a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Officer; OR be formerly employed as such with a lapse in service no greater than three years; OR demonstrate ability to obtain certification as described in the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) Must possess an unrestricted noncommercial driver's license valid in the state of Maryland This position requires a background check This position requires a physical examination This position requires a polygraph test This is an essential/ emergency position This position is subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with COMAR You will be an at-will employee, serving at the discretion of the President. Your continued employment is contingent upon your receiving certi?cation as a sworn police o?cer from the MPTC upon application. Bachelor's Degree At least 10 yrs supervisory exp. At least 12 yrs experience working in law enforcement.
