This is a full-time position with benefits and a clear pathway into a law enforcement career. Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Retirement plan Paid time off Schedule Full-time Shift work required (including nights, weekends, and holidays) Key Responsibilities Maintain security and order within the detention facility Supervise inmates in housing units, work assignments, and daily activities Conduct inmate counts, searches, and inspections for contraband Escort and transport inmates to court, medical appointments, and other approved locations Respond to emergencies, disturbances, and altercations, including gaining physical control when necessary Enforce facility rules, policies, and procedures Complete reports and documentation accurately and timely Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required No prior corrections experience required - training provided Ability to maintain professionalism in high-stress situations Strong communication and decision-making skills Ability to work assigned shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to stand for extended periods and respond physically during emergencies Must pass background check and meet agency hiring standards Career Development Opportunity The Ray County Sheriff's Office is committed to developing future law enforcement professionals.
