Job Description

Hiring Process (over 2 days): Written test Physical fitness test (Cooper standard) Interview panel 2 hour ride-along Sheriff's interview
Qualifications:
Be at least 18 years of age High School diploma or equivalent US Citizen Able to obtain Montana Driver's License No felonies No serious Misdemeanors including, but not limited to; Domestic Violence or Theft. No DUI conviction within 5 years Good moral character Be able to complete a standardized mental health and physical fitness exam and extensive background investigation Be able to pass the MPAT physical testing Ability to achieve POST certification within one year of date of hire and be in good physical condition Ability to qualify with specific duty weapons Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public Ability to handle interpersonal situations and have problem-solving skills Willingness to serve the community High level of common sense Quick, effective decision making is a must A drive to be the best at what you do Job description : Under general supervision, performs a variety of basic law enforcement tasks as assigned by the Sheriff, Undersheriff, or other Supervisory personnel Such assignments include criminal and traffic investigation, serving legal papers, civil and criminal, as directed by the Courts Work varies, allowing individual judgment within prescribed standards, procedures, or statutory provisions; Must meet all statutory requirements of a Deputy Sheriff; Work is often performed in undesirable and uncontrollable conditions in which heat, cold, and dampness, and hazardous material may be encountered; May be subject to long hours Performs a variety of basic statutory law enforcement assignments including preserving the peace; Arrests and takes before the courts for examination all persons who attempt to commit, or have committed, a public offense; Prevents and suppresses all breaches of peace; As directed attends Courts and obeys their lawful orders and directions; Serves notices, warrants or other legal documents as directed; May be subject to rotating shifts and call outs twenty four (24) hours a day; and May conduct civil and criminal investigations, gathering and processing of evidence, interview witnesses, and perform crime scene activities of fingerprinting, photography, and securing of the scene for the gathering of further evidence; Additional assignments may include: Search and rescue, bailiff duties, FTO, inmate security or transportation, firearms instructor, and other activities; Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Sheriff through his representative; Initiates incident reports and maintains daily reports, forms, and other information as may be required Work requires substantial contact with the public, fellow employees, and other agencies in which tact, diplomacy, and the necessity to maintain confidentiality is essential; 10 to 12 hour shifts. Possible overtime working with U.S. Broder Patrol for Operation Stonegarden on the U.S./Canadian Border. Take home vehicle. MDTs Work cellphones
