Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation Individual must be BLET certified as a law enforcement officer by the State of North Carolina through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. , Report Management System, word processing, DCI , and CAD Mobile Data Terminals The role also includes the safe and effective use of fire suppression equipment, digital cameras, lock tools, and flares in compliance with departmental policies and legal standards Function Problem Solving Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Ability to assist officers with difficult or unusual situations. Ability to analyze and resolve problems through informal discussions and formal procedures. Conducts building vulnerability analyses utilizing Crime Prevention through Environmental Design ( CPTED ) guidelines. Develops and implements detailed action plans to address environmental crime prevention issues. Initiates and plans selective traffic enforcement activities, such as traffic surveys, checkpoints, and educational programs. Utilizes crime statistics data and reports to determine course of action to address identified crime trends. Uses proper questioning techniques to obtain readily available information from witnesses, victims and suspects. Establishes and secures a crime scene. Records facts and prepares reports to document preliminary and follow-up investigations. Diagnoses the offenses based on the information obtained during the investigation and takes appropriate action Properly execute search and arrest warrants. Testifies in court to provide evidence or act as a witness in traffic and criminal cases or Grand Jury hearings. Develops prosecution summaries with assistance as needed. Complies with student conduct request and testifies as a witness as student hearings. Follows established procedures for submission of evidence. Provides assistance and emotional supports to others, including referral to support agencies. Investigate traffic crashes to determine causes and criminal violations as assigned. Completes all documentation prior to going off-duty using the appropriate forms. Successfully investigate criminal acts. Ability to investigate traffic accidents involving property damage and minor personal injury. Arrests and processes suspects through the appropriate procedures. Responds to calls, recognizes situations quickly and objectively determines appropriate actions. Demonstrates ability to function as Chemical Analyst while processing a DWI arrest. Identifies suspicious individuals, incidents and vehicles. Function Communication (Presentations, Oral, and Written) Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to ensure that the understand the information and the message Ability to effectively communicate with staff daily through interpersonal interactions and written documentation. Ability to employ formal conflict resolution and mediation skills. Advise other law enforcement agencies such as theNC SBI , NC
State Highway Patrol, Durham City Police, Durham County Sheriff and Duke University Police of Campus related issues and request assistance as needed. Function Organizational Awareness and Commitment Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function. Evaluate special events by observation and event after action reports to insure proper manpower and equipment were on hand. Monitors patrol squad operations by reviewing incident reports, operation reports, arrest reports and warrants to insure that correct procedures are followed in accordance with NC General Statutes, University Policies and Procedures, and University Police Department Policy. Receive university activities and facility reservation request and meet with the University Scheduler of campus events.Posting Number:
