The Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Sergeant who are interested in being assigned to the Special Investigations Division, Special Conditions Unit.RESPONSIBILITIES
Sergeants in the Special Conditions Unit will supervise Police Officers assigned to the Special Conditions Unit. Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervising and assisting with a high volume of arrests using firsthand knowledge of arrest processing in all counties in our GAOE. Recognizing and targeting crime patterns and conditions within their assigned region. Developing strategies for crime reduction. Ensuring SCU Police Officer case reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner and categorized appropriately. Provide necessary and timely information to ISB Supervision relative to crime patterns and remediation efforts. Provide necessary and timely information to ISB Supervision relative to arrest details and their subsequent prosecutions. Keeping detailed statistics relative to unit activity. Giving guidance and showing leadership to SCU Police Officers while fostering and maintaining working relationships with patrol and patrol supervision. Oversee apprehensions and extraditions of wanted persons. Detective Division support. Warrant Squad support. Supervising uniformed and plain clothes enforcement operations. Addressing special conditions as identified by the Chief of Police. MTA Special Condition Sergeants are expected to follow the MTAPD policies and procedures and follow the protocol set out in the collective bargaining agreements and by theMTA. QUALIFICATIONS
All members must, at a minimum, have the following qualifications/requirements to be considered for appointment. Must currently hold the rank of Sergeant . Must have extensive knowledge of New York Penal Law /Criminal Procedure Law and Connecticut laws. Must be willing to work outdoors during inclement weather. Must be flexible to work various tours and various work locations within the MTA Police service area. Ability to make quick and sound judgments during stressful situations. Strong written and communication skills. Strong work ethic Be able to demonstrate strong supervisory communication, interpersonal, multi-tasking, and leadership skills. Successfully complete an interview before an Interview Panel. Complete a "Candidate Application" (Form #69) and forward it to his or her immediate supervisor, who shall complete the applicable sections and then forward the form through the chain of command. Candidates who are classified as "Doctor Certified" or "Chronic Sick" or who have a history of substantiated discipline will be subject to review based on the underlying circumstances regarding classification and may be disqualified at any stage of the selection process.The following qualifications are preferred:
Prior training in narcotics sales and drug identification Extensive plain clothes experienceOTHER INFORMATION
