Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Police Supervisor (Lieutenant) will be a part of the Department of Campus Safety Command Staff. Manage all aspects of one or more departmental functions, as assigned. In the absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director of Campus Safety, work alongside equal Command Staff to manage departmental operations. Represent the department to the University, other agencies, and the general public.
Responsibilities:
Enforce policies of the University and applicable laws to include local, state, and federal statutes Prevent crime and protect life and University property Supervise campus safety employees to include delegation of duties, training, and problem resolution Motivate employees to achieve productivity and performance Evaluate employee performance and make employee action recommendations to the Director Identify problems, consider alternative solutions, take action, and when appropriate consult with the Director of Campus Safety Perform the duties of a Campus Police Officer including performing routine patrols, responding to calls and complaints, providing assistance to disabled students and escorting students, and providing security at events Participate in development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, and strategic planning Develop and implement projects and programs to assist in the accomplishment of established goals Assist employees in the execution of duties; review cases with employees as appropriate; provide guidance and direction Prepare incident, accident, and other such reports with detailed accuracy Attend meetings, conferences, and participate in committees, as assigned Perform other job related duties, as assigned
Requirements:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to evaluate a situation, be decisive in stressful situations, and take appropriate action Ability to lead and manage a team Work cooperatively, courteously, but firmly, with all segments of the public Maintain complete and accurate records Bachelor's degree preferred Minimum 5 years of experience as a law enforcement officer Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience Attainment of a commission as a Special Police Officer by the Memphis Police Department Compliance with all Tennessee P.O.S.T. requirements
