Join one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona and the youngest in Yuma County! Entry level classification for purpose of acquiring training to achieve Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZ POST) certification. Duration not to exceed 10 months.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below represent the various types of work that may be performed. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: As a Police Recruit you will: Attend a minimum of a twenty-two week training program under the supervision of instructors in a police academy approved by AZ POST to acquire the minimum and skills necessary to perform in Police Officer classification. Read and study instructional or informational material in order to achieve elementary working knowledge. Prepare and take written physical tests to prove knowledge and skill levels. Receive field training from certified Field Training Officer (FTO), utilizing and applying knowledge from classroom work; receive evaluations from FTO to track progress. Obtain certification upon meeting AZ POST established minimum standards and passing required examinations (or waiver examinations) within a six-month period.Possess skills in:
Analytical, objective observance of situations and quick decision-making. Managing situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and impartially. Recording information accurately and completely.Will possess ability to:
Serve our community with courtesy and respect. Pass written and physical agility examination. Pass oral board interview. Pass polygraph examination and drug test. Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including credit check, polygraph and psychological examination and meet the minimum POST standards for medical examination and physical ability.Education, Training, and Experience:
A High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.License and Certifications:
All requirements/license must be maintained throughout employment. A valid Arizona Driver's License at the time of appointment Must meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) and City of San Luis standards for appointment as a Police Officer Special requirements: Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the City of San Luis Must be a U.S. Citizen Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of graduation from thePolice Academy Desired/Preferred:

Work is performed in a standard office environment, and in the field on tactical assignments; may be exposed to physical attacks, hazardous chemicals, infectious and communicable diseases; may be required to physically restrain persons; must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet department standards.
