Job Description
DEFINITION
To attend a post certified law enforcement academy training program for newly hired Police Officers.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives immediate supervision from supervisory or management staff.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: Participate in and complete a prescribed law enforcement officer training program for entry level police officers including training in report writing, laws of arrest and seizure, defensive driving, California Vehicle and Penal Codes, officer survival and physical fitness. Perform a wide variety of police support duties which may include dispatching and records, and/or assisting in planning and research activities. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other city employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Perform related duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to: On a continuous basis, while learning all aspects of a sworn police officer job; intermittently analyze work papers, reports and special projects; remember accounts given by witnesses; identify crime suspects; interpret and apply the law to field situations; observe while conducting surveillance; problem solve crime situations; and explain law to the public. On an intermittent basis, sit at desk or in patrol vehicle; walk and stand during patrol activities; bend, squat and kneel during inspection of crime scene or conducting building searches; climb stairs and/or ladders while in the field; twist while making arrests; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. Continuously wear utility belt and other police equipment of 30 pounds; intermittently carry weight of 100 pounds or less. Successfully complete a training program for entry level Police Officers. Successfully pass a police background investigation. Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places. Learn to use and properly care for firearms. Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately. Learn, understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures. Prepare clear, accurate and grammatically correct written reports. Meet physical standards, endurance and agility established by the City. Meet the requirements for police officer contained in the California State Government Code. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Other Requirements License or Certificate Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate California driver's license. Applicants for the Police Officer Trainee position are required to complete the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) and achieve a minimum T-score of 50 . A copy of the official PELLETB T-score must be attached to the application at the time of submission. Applications submitted without a qualifying score will be considered incomplete and will not advance in the selection process. PELLETB scores obtained within the past three (3) years from the date of application will be accepted. The Davis Police Department will not administer or host PELLETB examinations.
