The Clayton Police Department is a small but highly capable agency staffed by professional officers who are dedicated to serving the community with integrity, compassion, and pride. Officers work closely with residents, businesses, and visitors to maintain a safe and welcoming environment while preserving the character and values of the community. Position Summary The Police Officer performs general law enforcement duties to protect life and property, preserve public peace, prevent crime, and enforce local ordinances and state laws. Officers patrol assigned areas, respond to calls for service, conduct investigations, and engage positively with the community. Duties Patrol assigned areas regularly to deter criminal activity and maintain public safety Respond promptly to emergency calls, accidents, and incidents, providing immediate assistance as needed Conduct criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports Enforce laws related to traffic control, public order, immigration, and animal handling when applicable Utilize surveillance techniques to monitor suspicious activity and prevent potential threats Manage conflict situations with professionalism, employing conflict management skills to de-escalate tensions Write comprehensive reports documenting incidents, arrests, and investigations for legal proceedings Assist in loss prevention efforts at retail or public venues to protect property and assets Apply first aid and CPR in emergency situations to provide critical care until medical professionals arrive Operate law enforcement vehicles safely while adhering to driving regulations Qualifications Must be 20 years old at the time of application. Strong desire to be a professional, ethical police officer and member of a team of like-minded police officers. High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver's license. Ability to pass background investigation, physical examination, psychological examination, truth varification testing, and drug screening Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment under stressful conditions. No serious driving history, no criminal history, and no serious drug usage (must be more than six months since the last use of THC/Marijuana. Ability to successfully complete Georgia POST Mandate Training or have a valid Georgia law enforcement certification. Military experience is a plus. Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in emergency situations Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships within the community.
