Salary:
Starting salary will be based on the number of years of previous experience as a full-time officer:
Minimum of two (2) years of full-time experience: $77,238
Five (5) or more years of full-time experience: $81,100
More than eleven (11) years of full-time experience: $83,736

Position Details The Board of Police Commissioners for the Village of Elburn is accepting applications for the position of Lateral Entry Police Officer.
The Village currently has at least one immediate opening and will establish a Lateral Eligibility List for future hiring needs.

Department:
The Elburn Police Department is comprised of:
11 full-time sworn police officers
6 part-time sworn police officers
2 part-time Community Service Officers
2 full-time civilian clerical staff
1 part-time civilian clerical staff
Patrol Officers are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP). The current collective bargaining agreement expires April 30, 2028.
Minimum Qualifications:
Lateral candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Must be a United States citizen.
Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of application and be able to obtain an Illinois driver's license upon hire.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age by June 30, 2026.
Applicants must:
Be certified as a full-time police officer in the United States
Be currently employed as a full-time law enforcement officer for at least two (2) years
Have successfully completed probation with their current department
Be in good standing with their current agency
Must possess a high school diploma, GED certificate, or high school proficiency statement.
Must possess good moral character and have no felony convictions or disqualifying misdemeanor convictions.
Officers must reside within 40 miles of the Elburn Police Department by the completion of their probationary period.
Testing Process:
Applicants must successfully complete all phases of the hiring process, which may include:

Oral interview
Extensive background investigation
Post-offer physical examination
Drug screening
Applicants must also provide proof of successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Course in accordance with the Illinois Police Training Act.
