Job Description

Are you a student looking to enhance your understanding of a career in public safety? The Geneva Police Department has internships available this summer! This valuable learning opportunity allows students to gain work experience, receive on-the-job training, and develop a professional network for future positions in law enforcement. The College Student Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to integrate theory and practice by working alongside sworn police officers. The internship will be an unpaid, non-sworn position that varies from as little as eight hours per week to as many as, but no more than, 40 hours per week over the course of the summer.

Interns will gain exposure to a wide variety of police duties that may include special events, specialized training details, special assignments, bike patrol, foot patrol, and meetings. Interns will only take an active role in a situation at the specific direction of a sworn Geneva police officer. All of the requirements, including scheduling, must be agreed to by the Geneva Police Department, the intern applicant, and the college/university (if applicable) before the internship starts. Requirements can and will vary based on the college/university program. Applicants must currently be enrolled in a college or university program for criminal justice, emergency management, or a similar field. Availability to work throughout the summer months (May - August) is required as well, although the start and end dates of the internship are flexible based on the candidate's availability and school schedule. Candidates must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

To apply, please submit an application along with any supplemental documents such as a cover letter, resume, etc. through NeoGov. The job posting will remain open until filled. Questions can be directed to Geneva Police Sgt. Quantrell Priest at qpriest@geneva.il.us.
