25,500 Position Details The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Melrose Park is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. Testing is being conducted for immediate new hires and to establish an eligibility list for anticipated future hiring needs. Melrose Park Police Department strives to keep pace with emerging programs and methods that will help them maintain a high quality of life in Melrose Park. Crime is a concern in any community, and in Melrose Park they create a public/private partnership to keep crime reduced. Citizenship:
Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must provide a copy of proof of U.S. citizenship. Eligible documents for verifying eligibility - U.S. Birth Certificate, Naturalization Papers or Passport.
Driver's License:
Must possess a valid Driver's License.
Age Requirements:
Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday at the last date for filing applications (7/8/26). Applicants must be less than 35 years of age at the time of application (7/8/26) and when the final eligibility list is posted, unless they have been certified and employed as a Full-Time Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1.
Education:
Must have proof of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement AND have a minimum 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university OR two (2) years of active military duty with an honorable discharge.
Character:
Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.
Vision:
Eyesight must be corrected to at least 20/20, and must have the ability to distinguish color and be void of night blindness.
Residence:
Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Melrose Park within six (6) months; upon completion of their year-long probation period.
P.O.W.E.R.
Card:
Must possess a valid POWER card issued between 7/25/25 and time of testing on 7/25/26 issued from a certified testing agency.
Testing:
Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing (written, oral, medical, polygraph and psychological). All individuals meeting eligibility requirements are encouraged to continue with the application process.
