Job Description

Join the Tipton Police Department- Patrol Officer Hiring Process Are you looking for a meaningful and rewarding career serving your community and helping keep others safe? Consider joining the Tipton Police Department as a Full-Time Police Office r. Accepting pre-applications through June 19, 2026, for the position of Police Officer as part of our upcoming hiring process. Applications may be obtained Monday through Friday from 9 am-3 pm at Tipton Public Safety Building (225 E. Jefferson St., Tipton, IN) or Tipton City Hall (216 S. Main St., Tipton, IN), or visit for more information. All applications should be emailed to Chief David Maddox at dmaddox@tipton.in.gov or submitted in person to the Tipton Public Safety Building by June 19, 2026, at 3:00 pm. Applicants whose pre-applications are accepted will receive additional information regarding the hiring process at a later date.
The hiring process may include:
Application review Background investigation Oral interviews Written testing (for non-lateral applicants) Physical fitness assessment (for non-lateral applicants) Physical agility testing will follow the NEW Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) standards (www.in.gov/ilea/physical-fitness-standards/) Basic Qualifications Applicants must: Be a citizen of the United States Be between 21 and 40 years of age at the time of hire to qualify for PERF Possess a valid driver's license Hold a high school diploma or equivalent Successfully pass a thorough background investigation Complete an oral interview Pass physical agility testing based on current ILEA standards Have no felony convictions or domestic battery convictions Not have received a dishonorable discharge from military service Compensation Starting salary for
Probationary Patrol Officer:
$55,496 First Class Patrolman salary: $61,991 Longevity pay up to $5,000 Lateral bonus of $5000 Tier 1 Indiana Law Enforcement Academy hires may receive longevity credit for up to 10 years of prior Tier 1 service Benefits Include 1977 Police Officers Retirement Fund (PERF) Health Insurance ($3/year premium) Dental and vision insurance Life insurance Health Savings Account (HSA) (city contribution) 12 paid holidays Vacation and sick leave 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off Take-home vehicle program with off-duty use Clothing allowance Cell phone stipend Uniforms and equipment provided Overtime opportunities Off-duty employment opportunities Comp time Specialty pay Facial hair and tattoos permitted Vacation benefits may accrue based on years of service.

$55,496.00 - $61,991.00 per year
