Job Description

The City of Frankfort is looking for dedicated, full-time Police Officers to join our team. If you're passionate about making a difference and committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in our community, we encourage you to apply.
We offer:
Training Pay of $4,562/year Shift differential of .75/hr. ($1,560) 12 hour shifts with built in overtime ($6,459) 7 days off in a two week pay period 1% longevity pay every three years in addition to COLAs and promotional increases 24% employer match toward 401(a) during first year with 9% employee 401k or 457 contribution 78 hours per year of paid leave for fitness in addition to generous vacation leave, sick leave, and holiday leave 100% paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance for employees plus buy up options Take home vehicle with out of county take home option $850 uniform allowance Employer paid cell phone Up to $25/month gym stipend 6 week paid parental leave program Tuition reimbursement Overtime opportunities Specialized unit opportunities We also offer a competitive pay rate that acknowledges your valuable experience. If you are a Certified Officer with more than 5 years of experience, your pay will be set at the rate for your current years of experience less one year.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under general direction of a superior officer, performs police duties in enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Patrols the city on foot and by vehicle on regularly assigned shift enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Responds to calls received during shift, takes proper action, and prepares accurate reports. Issue court citations for traffic violations; appears in court when necessary. Makes arrests. Serves legal documents for the courts. Controls traffic at fires, accidents, parades, etc. May operate breathalyzer and radar equipment. Secures the scene of crimes and accidents, conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, interviews witnesses, and prepares accurate reports. May be assigned to perform criminal investigative or other specialized duties. Provides security for business and homes as requested. Assists in emergency situations; may administer first-aid. May issue parking violations. Participates in approved law enforcement training courses.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
Demonstrates the ability to maintain composure and self-control. Demonstrates the ability to react quickly and calmly with good judgement in emergency situations. Assesses situations accurately and determines appropriate action. Manages difficult and emotional situations effectively. Complies with departmental performance standards. Must possess a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver's license. Candidate must be 20.5 years of age to be considered for the position. Graduation from high school or equivalent.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires ability to stand, sit or move about frequently. Work requires physical agility and strength to make arrests, apprehend suspects, etc. In order to move forward in the selection process, applicants must submit the following documents with the application.
