Jobs › Lenox, MA › Patrol Officer Town of Lenox Patrol Officer Lenox, MA Apply Job Purpose Responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, and policies contained in the Policies and Procedures and Rules and Regulations Manual. Duties include a number of general police responsibilities necessary to the stability and safety of the community. Supervision Serves under the supervision of the Police Chief and Senior Officer in accordance with departmental rules and regulations. Performs responsible duties based on clearly prescribed practices, occasionally exercising independent judgment in the choice of action not clearly defined by standardized procedures. Job Environment Works in the field under varying conditions. Frequent exposure to noise and fumes associated with traffic, firearms; exposure to various weather conditions. Frequent exposure to circumstances having the potential to endanger public and personal safety. Operates automobile, firearms, hand tools, various office equipment. Makes frequent contact with the general public, human service organizations, community groups; has periodic contacts with state and federal agencies and other police departments. Errors could endanger persons and property, cause confusion and delay of service and result in adverse public relations. Has access to confidential information related to criminal investigations. Essential Functions
  • Identifies criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate, apprehends offenders and participates in subsequent court proceedings.
  • Reduces the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventive patrol and other measures.
  • Aids individuals who are in danger of physical harm.
  • Facilitates the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
  • Identifies problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.
  • Creates and maintains a feeling of security in the community.
  • Promotes and preserves the peace.
  • Provides other services on an emergency basis.

Physical Requirements Moderate to strenuous physical effort required periodically. Frequently required to stand, walk or operate vehicles for many hours per day. Must meet the fitness requirements of the MPTC. Occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Recommended Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
  • High School graduate
  • Associate\'s Degree in criminal justice preferred.
  • Successful completion of law enforcement training in accordance with Criminal Justice Training Council standards.
  • Valid driver\'s license. Knowledge, Ability and Skill
  • Working knowledge of Massachusetts and local motor vehicle and criminal laws.
  • Ability to enforce the law impartially and to make sound judgments under stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate concisely and clearly and to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with the general public and other law enforcement officials.
  • Ability to prepare detailed reports and records and to follow general or detailed instructions.
  • Working knowledge of law enforcement equipment. Training and qualification in the use of firearms.
  • Ability to perform strenuous and hazardous tasks under all weather conditions.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time four/two work schedule. Days, nights, weekends and holidays are required as the job duties demand per union contract. Salary
