Job Description

Reports To Sergeant, Deputy Chief and/or Chief of Police Department Police Department FLSA Status Non-Exempt Position Summary Performs sworn law enforcement duties involving patrol operations, crime prevention, public safety response, community policing and enforcement of federal, state, county and City laws. Responsible for protecting life and property and maintaining positive community relationships. Essential Duties Patrol assigned areas using marked or unmarked vehicles, bicycle, foot patrol or other methods. Respond to calls involving crimes, emergencies, disturbances, accidents and public safety concerns. Enforce federal, state, county and City laws and ordinances. Investigate suspicious activity and criminal incidents. Interview suspects, victims and witnesses and prepare reports. Respond to medical emergencies and critical incidents. Operate police communication systems and technology. Participate in community policing and neighborhood outreach activities. Prepare reports, citations and court documentation. Appear in court and testify when required. Maintain knowledge of Department policies and legal requirements. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPTC) certification required or ability to obtain. Valid driver's license. Ability to pass criminal background and physical requirements. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of criminal law, police procedures and public safety practices. Ability to make sound decisions under stressful conditions. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact professionally with diverse populations. Physical Requirements Must be in excellent physical and mental condition. Ability to stand, walk, run, lift, climb, restrain individuals and perform emergency response functions.
