Rate of Pay:
Start $25.34 per hour- 5th Year- $29.33
Hours:
84 per pay period; 12-hour shifts (7a-7p & 7p-7a) Open to: Applicants must be MCOLES Licensed or eligible for MCOLES licensing as police officer in the state of Michigan at time of appointment. Applicants being considered for employment will be required to pass a criminal background check, a psychological test, and a physical examination, including a drug screen. Applicants will also be required to complete a personal history questionnaire. Who We Are Gratiot County is a close knit, agriculturally based community with the county seat in Ithaca. Gratiot County boasts of one of the largest wind farm developments in the State of Michigan that has brought economic prosperity to the area. While we are a rural community, we are split by US-127, which is a major North/South expressway. The home of the Alma College Scots and the Alma Highland Festival bring people from all over the state to check out our gem of a county. Description The Gratiot County Sheriff's Department is currently accepting applications for Full time Road Patrol Deputies. New officer wage for the position is $24.13 per hour. Deputies will top out at $29.33 after 5 years of service. Sheriff may adjust starting wage based on experience at his discretion. Gratiot County offers great benefits to staff. The County pays hard cap (max allowed) toward Blue Cross Blue Shield medical coverage. In addition, the county covers the premiums for Life Insurance, Long Term Disability and Dental for all full time Sheriff Department staff. The County also offers voluntary coverage for vision, Short Term Disability, Critical Illness, and Hospitalization. After each year of service, each deputy earns a minimum of 96 hours of vacation time, 144 hours of sick time, 36 hours of Personal Leave and is paid out for 162 hours of Holiday pay. General Job Summary Under general supervision and according to established procedures and department regulations, Deputy Sheriffs are responsible for protecting life and property through enforcement of laws and ordinances in a specific geographic area. Frequently involves the performance of hazardous and strenuous tasks and the exercise of initiative and judgment in various situations endangering life or property. Special Assignments K9 Unit MAGNET Deputy Marine Patrol 416 Traffic Unit/ Secondary Road Patrol Qualifications/Requirements Must be licensed or licensable as a police officer in the State of Michigan by MCOLES at the time of appointment. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be 21 years of age. Must be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination administered as part of the selection process. No felony convictions (including expunged records or convictions under YTA etc.) Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
