Police Detective City of Brooklyn Center, MN - 5.0 Brooklyn Center, MN Job Details Full-time $55.39 - $61.06 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Dental insurance Life insurance Qualifications Employee relationship building Driver's License Peace Officer Certification State-specific police officer certification Full Job Description Position Summary The police detective is responsible for the investigation of reported offenses, on-scene investigations, preparation of cases for criminal court, and the handling and gathering of intelligence information as it relates to specific areas of criminal activity. The person in this role handles law enforcement activity, including, but not limited to, responding to calls for service, assigned tasks and details, and self-initiated contacts. The police detective is a highly ethical and honest officer who is committed to helping brand the City of Brooklyn Center as a great place to live, work, go to school and shop, and brand its police department as an organization you can trust and depend on. The current application process is open for internal applicants of the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Examples of Duties Investigative Investigates assigned misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor and felony offenses. Conducts thorough examinations of crime scenes and directs support personnel in identifying, gathering, and documenting all evidence. Prepares case files for prosecutors. Interviews complainants, victims, and witnesses and interrogates criminal suspects. Participates in multi-jurisdictional investigations with other law enforcement organizations. Gathers, develops, and disseminates intelligence information including, but not limited to, attending various investigators' intelligence meetings, department muster meetings, and speaking with informants. Conducts background investigations as required for City licensing purposes and employment for the City of Brooklyn Center. Conducts presentations for department personnel, the business community, and civic organizations on criminal investigations and crime prevention topics. General Enforces city ordinances and state and federal laws in a fair and uniform manner and according to established department policies; effects an arrest when circumstances dictate. Prepares and executes warrants, makes recommendations for criminal complaints, and presents testimony as required in court. Prepares clear and accurate reports in accordance with department policies. Responsible for disseminating and receiving information through telecommunication devices including, but not limited to, computer files, radio system, phone system (mobile phones/voice mail), electronic mail, mobile video recorders, and digital recorders. Performs related law enforcement and service tasks as apparent or specifically assigned. Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and assistance. Performs duties required of a police officer. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent. Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years of sworn law enforcement experience. Valid MN Peace Officer's License. Valid MN Driver's License. Desired qualifications Successful track record of building strong relationships with a wide variety of people and traditionally underserved communities. Ability to speak, read or write any language other than English, including sign language.

Physical Abilities :
Works some evenings, weekends and holidays, in both internal office and external conditions including all kinds of weather. Must meet physical abilities of police officer.
