Patrol Officer (Entry or Lateral)

Job Summary:

The City of Raton Police Department is seeking dedicated and community-oriented individuals to serve as Police Officers. This role is responsible for protecting life and property, enforcing local, state, and federal laws, and fostering positive relationships within the community. Officers perform a variety of duties including patrol, responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, and supporting public safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity Respond promptly to emergency and non-emergency calls Enforce traffic laws and issue citations as necessary Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records Engage with community members to build trust and cooperation Testify in court as required

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED (Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred) Valid driver's license Ability to meet New Mexico law enforcement certification requirements Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills Commitment to ethical conduct and community service

Work Environment:

This position requires shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Officers must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and potentially stressful situations.
