POSITION SUMMARY AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Investigate Animal Cruelty concerns and support individuals and families through outreach services within Erie County. This position is assigned to the Investigations Division to is responsible for identifying animal welfare concerns, supporting humane interventions, and assisting with appropriate legal enforcement when necessary. The officer will assist in response efforts involving sick, injured, or at-risk domestic and wild animals in accordance with departmental protocols and organizational capacity. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating criminal matters and maintaining all pertinent legal paperwork associated with criminal charges and arrests. Responsibilities also include writing detailed reports, documenting activities, and communicating effectively with other SPCA departments to ensure coordinated and informed responses. This position requires a willingness to maintain a flexible schedule, to include weekends, on-call shifts, and evening court sessions. They must also have the ability to assess each situation individually and work collaboratively to pursue outcomes that support both animal welfare and family stability whenever safely possible. This position works closely with Outreach, Veterinary Services, Shelter Operations, Wildlife, and other SPCA departments to support humane, sustainable, and community-centered solutions. Officers will work directly with the public to provide education, guidance, and access to community resources, including internal support services, veterinary assistance, pet retention resources, and low-cost vaccination clinics. A valid New York State Driver's License and clean driving record are required, along with two years of related animal handling experience and/or training. New York State Peace Officer status with DCJS to include annual qualifications, firearms qualification, and defensive tactic qualifications required.

Pay:
$19.00 per hour
