Job Description
Town of East Hampton - Traffic Control Officers in the East Hampton Town Police Department Under direct supervision of a police officer, the employee works a fixed post or patrols an assigned area to direct traffic and, as specifically empowered, enforces laws, rules, and regulations relating to the movement, parking, stopping, or standing of vehicles. The incumbent may issue parking tickets but is not empowered to make arrests, is not armed, but may wear a uniform. Employment in this position is seasonal, with opportunities to work weekends and special events year-round. Does related work as required.
Responsibilities include:
Directs traffic at intersections, schools, special events, etc. Helps direct traffic when motor vehicle accidents occur Patrols crosswalks to ensure the safety of pedestrians Assists the public with directions or any other questions they may have Patrols assigned areas to enforce parking, stopping, and standing rules Issues parking tickets Reports violations related to ordinance to police officers and/or fire inspectors May drive to Town beaches to issue parking tickets for no beach permits May testify in court for parking tickets This is a seasonal, part-time position with an hourly rate of $20.80 and up to 20 hours per week. Employee must have thorough knowledge of the local ordinances and parking regulations; ability to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner; ability to deal with people under stress; ability to prepare written material such as records and reports; ability to understand written and verbal orders; ability to drive a motor vehicle; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
