Four (4) tours of (10) ten hours and (16) sixteen minutes with three (3) consecutive rest days . SUMMARY The MTA Police Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Police Officer who are interested in participating in the Technical and Aerial Support Unit Pilot Program .
RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate familiarity with technology, including the ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot unmanned a ircraft systems (UAS), and an understanding of relevant regulations, safety protocols, and practical applications across various use cases. Proven ability to coordinate effectively with multiple agencies during active incidents, facilitating clear communication, enhancing situational awareness, and improving overall response efficiency through collaborative operations. Represent the department as a liaison for operations and various Law Enforcement meetings. Must be willing to work at any time and often outdoors during possible inclement weather. Provides operational support during active missions by delivering timely, accurate, real-time information to supervisory and command staff to inform decision-making and enhance overall effectiveness. Conduct unmanned a ircraft system (UAS) operations across the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) area of responsibility (AOR), ensuring safe, compliant, and mission-effective flights to support operational, safety, and situational awareness objectives. Attend training related to the role and responsibilities of the unit . Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date records of all UAS operations conducted by the unit , ensuring proper documentation of flight activities, maintenance logs, compliance with applicable regulations, and operational reporting requirements . Maintain accountability of UAS equipment, including batteries, sensors, payloads, and supporting systems. Conduct pre-flight planning, including risk assessments, airspace analysis, weather evaluation, and equipment checks to ensure safe and compliant operations. Provide technical support and assistance as required. •Experience or certification noted in the resume must be verifiable th rough records. Failure to note experience or the inability to verify experience may result in the candidate's removal from the interview consideration .
QUALIFICATIONS
Interested members must, at a minimum, possess the following qualifications to be considered for this position: ( 3 ) years of p olice experience (as defined in section 1.20 of the NYS criminal procedure code) with at least two ( 2 ) years of service with the MTA Police Department at the time of application. Candidate must not be on probation of any kind. Must possess a valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate . Ability to successfully complete a department sponsored UAS Operator's course. Candidates who do not meet the required standards will be subject to reassignment out of the unit. Prior completion of a UAS Operator's course is preferred, with demonstrated knowledge of UAS operations, safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements considered an asset. Prior experience operating unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) is preferred, with demonstrated proficiency in flight operations, safety procedures, mission execution, and basic troubleshooting considered an asset. Must maintain required certifications throughout the assignment in the unit. Ability to work and complete assignments with limited supervision. Candidates who are classified as "Doctor Certified" or "Chronic Sick" or who have a history of substantiated discipline will be subject to review based on the underlying circumstances regarding classification and may be disqualified at any stage of the selection process. Successful completion of the panel interview.
