Under direction, is responsible for conducting investigations at school locations and assisting the department administrators in the coordination of the School Safety Plans mandated by the Ohio Department of Education and Homeland Security; performs related duties as required. Examples of Work:
Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.- Investigates building break-ins, alarm responses, theft, vandalism of school property, and other incidents as determined by department leaders;
- Coordinates site investigations and directs and advises safety and security personnel participating in the investigations;
- Uses completed reports of incidents and the Department of Safety and Security's database to identify any trends of such incidents so that, if needed, preventative measures may be taken to limit their occurrence;
- Provides information to law enforcement, the fire department, Franklin County Children Services, and court personnel regarding incidents;
- Collaborates with the Assistant Director to ensure that all District schools and non-school sites have filed an accurate and complete school crisis plan yearly to ensure the District remains compliant with the School Safety Plans as required by law;
- Provides ongoing training to all District staff; Works with department leaders to annually review and revise the District's Emergency Operations Plan to ensure "best practice" procedures are in place;
- Responds throughout the District to incidents and directs additional safety and security staff;
- Monitors security systems, alarm response, safety drill reporting, and the Ohio Department of Education Safe Portal;
- Ensures that the District is compliant with conducting mandated school safety drills.
Department Requirement:
Must maintain a valid driver's licenseMinimum Qualifications:
Possession of a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience working as a law enforcement officer, parole officer, safety and security specialist, emergency management official, or comparable experience. Substitution(s): Two (2) additional years of experience as stated above may substitute for two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a valid driver's license. By completion of the probationary period, must possess certifications in Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated Electronic Defibrillation (AED).- Examples of law enforcement include local, state or government law enforcement agencies; correction or probation agencies; some security agencies may be accepted depending upon agency and duties.
Special Note:
Employees in this classification will be expected to obtain certifications in Incident Response to Terrorist Bombing (IRTB) and Prevention and Response to Suicide Bombing Incidents (PRSBI) when made available.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
