Job Description

Police Officer (Part-Time) - Newton Falls Police Department Help Build Something Exceptional. Serve a Community Rebuilding Its Future. The Newton Falls Police Department reopened its doors on July 1st 2025 , and we are rebuilding our agency with purpose, pride, and a forward-thinking vision. While many departments are hiring, few offer the chance to help shape a newly restarted police agency from the ground up. We are currently hiring Part-Time Police Officers who want more than just a position—officers who want to make an impact, grow with an expanding department, and take advantage of future opportunities, including specialized assignments, advancement, and leadership roles as the agency continues to develop. To support our officers, we offer uniform reimbursement, modern equipment, and an environment where motivated officers can quickly become key contributors to the department's growth. Overview As a Newton Falls Police Officer, you will play a pivotal role in protecting our community, restoring trust, and shaping the identity of a newly relaunched municipal police department. You will patrol neighborhoods, respond to emergencies, and uphold the law with integrity, professionalism, and compassion. This role provides a meaningful opportunity to serve a tight-knit community, develop your skill set, and be part of a team dedicated to building a safer, stronger Newton Falls. Key Duties Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity, promote public safety, and assist community members Respond promptly to emergency calls, accidents, and critical incidents; administer first aid or CPR as needed Conduct investigations by obtaining statements, collecting evidence, and completing detailed reports Enforce laws, traffic regulations, and local ordinances with fairness and professionalism Utilize surveillance and observational techniques to detect suspicious or criminal activity Resolve conflicts using sound judgment, strong communication skills, and de-escalation tactics Assist with animal-related calls, including safe handling and care during incidents Engage positively with residents, businesses, and visitors to build trust and foster community partnerships Preferred Skills & Qualifications Must hold a current OPOTA Peace Officer Certification or be eligible and willing to complete the OPOTA Refresher Course in accordance with state requirements Solid understanding of law enforcement procedures, patrol operations, and investigative methods Strong report-writing abilities and attention to detail Competence in CPR and first aid response Experience with surveillance, security practices, or threat detection Leadership qualities with the ability to remain calm and decisive under stress Military or prior law-enforcement experience highly valued Excellent driving skills for patrol, emergency response, and high-risk situations Skilled in conflict management and de-escalation Familiarity with animal handling, community outreach, or related responsibilities Knowledge of immigration or related legal considerations is beneficial Ability to accept constructive feedback, adapt as needed, and work effectively as part of a team Why Join Newton Falls PD?
