SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
Patrols the city and surrounding areas in order to enforce all city ordinances and state and federal laws. Performs special assignments as may be directed, including but not limited to Community Policing, CID, etc.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Patrols the city and surrounding areas in order to enforce all city ordinances and state and federal laws. Performs special assignments as directed, including but not limited to Community Events, Criminal Investigations, uniformed and plain clothed assignments and proactive law enforcement. Responds to citizen requests and complaints regarding possible criminal activity; enforces all parking ordinances; issues warnings and citations to violators of city and state regulations. Arrests violators and transports to other facilities. Investigates suspicious and criminal activity. Responds to emergency calls, traffic accidents and general requests for assistance. Conducts crime scene search investigations. Lifts fingerprints, takes photographs, interviews suspects and takes statements. Writes offense, incident, arrest and impoundment reports. Informs the community of crime prevention, public safety and public awareness programs. Appears in court and testifies under oath.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Employee could be exposed to possibly dangerous criminals on a daily basis. Employee must work in seasonal temperatures and could be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals and diseases. Sufficient physical ability to bend, run, lift and crawl into small spaces. Must be able to pursue and restrain violent suspects. May ride patrol in either a patrol vehicle, on a bicycle or conduct foot patrols. Be able to change a tire or push a vehicle out of an intersection.

Physical demands are varied but may change rapidly and require the ability to maintain composure under stressful and physically demanding circumstances.
REQUIRED CONTACTS
Ability to effectively communicate with employees, citizens and other law enforcement agencies in order to discuss requests for service and possible criminal activities. Will work with other agencies in exchanging information or requesting assistance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills -Ability to read and interpret ordinances, state laws, reports and updates regarding criminal activity. Ability to complete a variety of written reports which may be used in a court of law. Employee will write citations. Ability to shoot a pistol, rifle or shotgun and demonstrate competent weapon proficiency and the ability to maintain weapons for maximum performance; Ability to make split-second decisions, use strong judgment and maintain composure in high stress situations. Must have the ability to participate in fitness assessments that may include row tests or other assessment tools as defined by the Azle Police Department's fitness for duty procedure. Minimum Education, Experience and Certification - TCOLE certification required. Must have a High School diploma, or a High School equivalency certificate, have an honorable discharge from the armed forces of the United States if served. Must be able to pass an extensive background examination. State licensed as Peace Officer. Valid Texas Driver's License.
