Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Police Officer is responsible for patrolling the city to maintain law and order, responding to dispatch calls, and performing special assignments to protect life and property. Duties include crime prevention, investigation, and upholding the laws of the city, state, and United States. Officers will complete reports of assignments and related work as required.
Essential Functions:
Respond to
Police Calls:
 Answer dispatch calls for incidents such as burglaries, auto thefts, accidents, criminal mischief, alarms, and domestic violence. Provide assistance, protection, or suspect apprehension as needed.
Documentation:
 Prepare accurate police reports following incidents, maintaining adherence to proper police procedures and the Police Officer's Code of Ethics.
City Patrol:
 Conduct regular patrols on city streets by vehicle or foot, assist citizens, issue traffic citations, and serve warrants.
Miscellaneous Duties:
 Attend shift briefings, receive assignments, compile reports, appear in court for testimony, collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, serve as court bailiff, and transport prisoners. Maintain patrol vehicle cleanliness.
Office Duties:
 Occasionally relieve dispatcher duties and provide assistance as needed.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong understanding of police protocols and procedures. Ability to exercise sound judgment in emergency and stressful situations. Good interpersonal skills to interact with the public and maintain community relations.
Education and Certification Requirements:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Texas Driver's License or access to reliable transportation. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.
Physical Requirements:
Primarily outdoor work with frequent exposure to various weather conditions. Ability to move between buildings, attend various sites, and operate standard office equipment. Sufficient manual dexterity, speech, hearing, and vision to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Consistent attendance in a designated workplace environment.
