Job Description

The City of Irving Police Department will administer a Civil Service Entrance Examination for the position of Police Officer on Monday, June 8, 2026, at two locations. Irving, Texas Irving Convention Center 500 W. Las Colinas Blvd. Irving, TX 75039 Check-in will begin at 3:00 p.m., and the examination will begin promptly at 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. Orlando, Florida Hyatt House Orlando Airport 5472 Gateway Village Orlando, FL 32812 Check-in will begin at 4:00 p.m., and the examination will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. After registering for the examination, please email ctrezza@irvingtx.gov and indicate which testing location you prefer (Orlando, FL or Irving, TX). All applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements below prior to registering for the examination. General Eligibility Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen . Must be at least 20 years and 6 months of age at the time of application, and 21 years of age by the date of police academy graduation . (There is no maximum age limit.) Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Must have an associate degree or equivalent (60 college hours) from a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE
  • approved/accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.
0 , unless one of the following exceptions applies: Applicants with three or more years of active military service and a high school diploma or G.E.D will be excempt from the college credits. Applicants who have served as a full-time certified peace officer for three or more years within 180 days immediately preceding their application and hold a high school diploma or G.E.D will be excempt from the college credits. Applicants who have served as a Detention Officer for the City of Irving for three or more consecutive years immediately preceding their application and hold a high school diploma or G.E.D will be excempt from the college credits. We do not take detention officers from other departments will need to have the college credits to apply.

$83,808 6 months of service: $87,996 1.5 years of service: $92,388 2.5 years of service: $96,996 3.5 years of service: $101,844 4.5 years of service: $106,932 5.5 years of service: $112,272 Job Details Enforce local, state, and federal laws while maintaining public safety through proactive patrols and community engagement. Prepare comprehensive reports related to incidents, accidents, and investigations. Respond to emergencies and provide first aid and CPR as necessary. Conduct surveillance, collect evidence, and assist in criminal investigations. Operate patrol vehicles safely and in accordance with traffic laws and departmental policy. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, city departments, and community organizations to promote public safety initiatives.
