POLICE OFFICER-Entry Level

Open Until Filled Employment Opportunity Responsible for performing a wide range of routine and emergency police services. Responds to citizens' calls for assistance; enforces laws and ordinances; pursues, subdues and arrests suspects using maneuvers and other weapons; operates a law enforcement vehicle in emergency situations at high speeds during both day and night and with all kinds of unsafe road conditions; prepares reports by hand and on a computer; gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers; and performs specialized administrative duties. Performs other duties assigned. Qualifications To be qualified to apply you must "(a) be a United States citizen, (b) be at least 21 years old at the time of certification..., [and] (c) be a high school graduate or furnish evidence of...equivalent achievement" (Utah Code, Section 53-6-203(1), as amended). Must be Utah POST certified or certifiable as a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) prior to hire date (those not LEO certified/certifiable but in the Academy are invited to apply; applicants must attach LEO certification to application, or include anticipated Academy graduation date on an attached resume). Also prefer an associate's degree from an accredited college or university, or prior military experience with honorable discharge. Must possess and maintain a valid Utah driver's license and have a good driving record. Must be able to meet the physical requirements established by the Department. Must have no illegal drug use/convictions within the last three years. Department policy does not allow offensive body piercing or branding to be visible while in uniform or at any time when the employee is identifiable as a member of the Department. Final candidates will be required to pass medical, drug, psychological and polygraph examinations prior to hire. Pay and Benefits $32.10 per hour ($5,564.67 per month). Schedule
TESTING PROCESS
All qualified applicants who are not currently in a POST academy, or who has graduated a POST academy before November 20th, 2025 (6 Months from our testing date) will be required to participate in and pass a physical agility test (1 ½ mile run in 15:54, 16" vertical jump, 25 push-ups, and 35 sit-ups in one minute) which will be administered on Monday April 20th, at 8:30 am. Applicants who pass the physical agility test will be scheduled for an oral interview. Those currently in a POST academy or who have graduated from a POST academy after November 20th, 2025, will be contacted for an oral interview that will be conducted on April 20th, 2026, starting at 8:45 am. (additional days will be added if necessary). All interviews and testing will be scheduled at the discretion of the City.
