Job Description

PLEASE NOTE
This position will pay $54.00 per hour. Must be a former police officer with no more than two years separation from previous employment. Must be a US citizen; must have a high school diploma or GED. Successful applicants must pass a physical agility test. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months or a DUI conviction within the past four years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height. No conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors. No conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest plea to, any misdemeanor sex offense or any domestic assault. Must pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. This position is considered Critical Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol testing. The use of illegal drugs, and/or the use of medical marijuana for this position is prohibited. Employees must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol while on duty, on work premises, or operating agency equipment. This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check. Conducts foot and vehicle patrols on campus property. Responds to calls for service and investigates criminal violations of state laws and county ordinances. Interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects. Makes arrests, prepares police reports, and testifies in court. The officer will act as the operational liaison between Chesterfield County Police Department and Brightpoint Community College. Coordinates directly with the Brightpoint Security Manager to share intelligence and evaluate campus safety. Assists college staff with annual Clery Act compliance. Serves as a member of the campus Threat Assessment Team, assists with emergency notifications and test drills. Maintains a visible presence to interact with students, faculty, and staff. Perform other police functions as assigned and as needed. Shifts are scheduled according to assignment needs to provide full-time operational hours exclusively during active academic sessions up to a maximum of 1,456 hours annually. Police
