Investigates crimes and helps reduce Tribal liabilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Investigate criminal and civil complaints when directed by the Chief of Police or designee. Gathers information and documents regarding crimes and allegations. Prepares and files detailed reports. Testifies in the appropriate court on behalf of the Tribe to further the chance of prosecution or to protect the Tribe's assets. Patrols Tribal land and properties to enforce all laws and provide protection and safety for all persons on Tribal lands. Responds to calls for service. Provides continuous public relations with other law enforcement and public agencies through presence, education, and assistance. Duties, responsibilities, requirements, and expectations of this job are subject to change as needed. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Education Entry Level High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). (Mandatory) AA Degree preferred but not a requirement of the position. Lateral Entry Associate degree (A.A.) in Criminal Justice or related field equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred. Experience Entry Level Preference would be at least one year of law enforcement experience in military or civilian agencies. But it is not necessary to apply. Lateral Entry Minimum of 2 years' experience as a certified Lateral Officer with a State, Municipal or Tribal Agency. Direct experience in an organizational development role strongly preferred. Skills Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Strong listening and interpersonal skills are required. Must have strong reasoning skills, good judgment, and the ability to choose the most appropriate action in each circumstance. Other Requirements Must successfully attend and graduate from an approved Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of appointment. Be eligible to be certified with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the State of Washington Basic Law Enforcement Standards. No Felony Convictions No Misdemeanor Convictions within the last five years. No Criminal Traffic Convictions within the last five years. Valid driver's license and be eligible for automobile insurance. This position requires significant amounts of work outside general business hours. Significant weekends, shift work, and on-call status is also required. Physical Demands Requires the ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods in a patrol car, constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding, and repetitive motion of hands and wrists. This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking. This position requires operating a motor vehicle safely, including operation at excessive speeds. May be exposed to loud noises. Testing Procedure All excepted applicants will be required to pass a written and physical agility examination. Those who pass the first phase will continue to the Oral Board Interview followed by the Polygraph and Psychological exams as required by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
