2088 Adams County is seeking a highly organized, service-oriented professional to serve as Clerk of the Board. This key position supports the Board of County Commissioners through executive-level administrative coordination, records management, agenda and meeting administration, public notices, policy and code updates, and other statutory and operational responsibilities essential to county government. The Clerk of the Board also serves in several important countywide capacities, including Public Records Officer, Board of Equalization Clerk, and County Risk Manager/alternate representative to the Washington Counties Risk Pool. The position requires strong judgment, discretion, political awareness, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced public environment with frequent interruptions. What you'll do
  • Coordinate Board calendars, appointments, and meeting agendas.
  • Attend official proceedings, take minutes, prepare final approved minutes, and distribute follow-up actions.
  • Draft and process public hearing notices, meeting change notices, resolutions, ordinances, contracts, amendments, and franchise notices.
  • Maintain official files and records in compliance with approved state retention schedules.
  • Support department budgeting, expenditure tracking, revenue receipts, and payroll preparation
  • Coordinate with the Auditor on countywide budget hearings and budget amendment hearings, including related public notices and resolutions.
  • Manage county code update coordination and assist with personnel policy updates and distribution of revisions.
  • Coordinate Board appointments and communicate with appointees, departments, attorneys, and partner agencies.
  • Oversee compliance support under the Public Records Act and assist requestors and departments with records requests.
  • Perform risk management functions, including claims handling support, insurance coordination, loss control activities, training, and certification maintenance.
  • Prepare annual indigent defense funding application materials.
Minimum qualifications:
  • College coursework of two to four years in business or a related field, plus two to five years of relevant business, administrative, and/or municipal experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid Washington State driver license and proof of current vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to complete required training and obtain certifications needed for the role, including CMC Certification, Risk Management Certification, and Public Records Officer Certification.
  • Ability to be bonded and obtain Notary Public license.

  • Experience managing records, public processes, and sensitive information with professionalism.
  • Knowledge of governmental operations, financial programs, and accounting procedures; familiarity with BARS is a plus.
  • The ability to remain calm, responsive, and effective when priorities shift quickly.
Work environment:
This position is primarily performed indoors in an office setting and involves frequent interruptions. Quarterly travel to Othello and occasional travel to outlying communities may be required for meetings and county business.
