Police Officer Village of Pleasant Prairie - 3.6 Pleasant Prairie, WI Job Details $69,814.97 - $92,547.18 a year 1 hour ago Qualifications Employee relationship building Full Job Description The Police Officer performs a variety of law enforcement and social services work that enhances the safety, security, civil order, and stable atmosphere of the community. Duties include but are not limited to security and crime prevention patrols; traffic control and traffic law enforcement; investigation and first aid at accident scenes; response to calls for service including rescues, crimes, and community service; and detection, investigation, apprehension, and arrest of people involved in crimes or misconduct. This position follows an eight-hour rotating schedule, consisting of five consecutive workdays followed by two days off, then five more workdays followed by three days off. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains awareness of, takes action, and enforces Village of Pleasant Prairie ordinances, State of Wisconsin traffic and criminal laws, and federal laws through the appropriate action of apprehension, arrest, search, and seizure. Provides public safety through multiple proactive approaches; observes traffic and enforces violations; collaborates with other government entities when appropriate. Engages in positive, clear, and concise verbal communications with individuals when providing directions, collecting information, advising of rights and processes, or mediating disputes. Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates traffic crashes, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs, etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action. Patrols by various means (i.e. vehicle, foot, etc.) in order to detect and prevent crime. Confers with shift supervisor on a regular basis, discussing work processes, incidents, problems and plans and receiving advice, counseling and instruction. Conducts preliminary investigations by protecting crime scenes, identifying and preserving evidence, and interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects. Processes, packages, labels, and inventories evidence and property received or recovered. Responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance, and operating condition of all property, apparatus, equipment, and tools. Prepares a variety of reports which provide clear, accurate, and factual information; testifies in Federal, State, and Municipal courts. Provides first-responder emergency medical services through the use and application of first aid, CPR and other trained medical skills. Learns and utilizes technologies that will sustain and improve the level of service provided; participates in mandatory training. Projects a positive professional image as stated in the Village of Pleasant Prairie Police Department Mission Statement. Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with members of the community and other employees. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors which requires the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a police officer. Physical At any time, officers may be placed in situations that demand physical and mental endurance. Therefore, they must maintain a high degree of physical and mental fitness. Requires frequent public interaction and the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand (verbally or written). Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Must be able to listen to and understand operating procedures and written directives. Educational, Certifications, and Experience 60 College Credits or an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university. Ability to become certifiable as a Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer.
