Job Description

The Arizona Attorney General's Office Child and Family Protection Division/Child Support Services Section is seeking a Unit Chief Counsel. This position is responsible for litigation on behalf of and representation of the Arizona Department of Economic Security ("DES"). Child Support Services attorneys work specifically with DES's Division of Child Support Services ("DCSS"), and the responsibilities include advising DCSS on child support law. This position reports directly to the Child Support Services Section Chief Counsel. Under direction, the Unit Chief Counsel plans, organizes, directs, and supervises attorneys' work, pursuant to the policies, procedures, and practices of the Child Support Services Section. The Unit Chief Counsel is responsible for interviewing, hiring recommendations, training, coaching, and discipline.

Knowledge:
Knowledge and understanding of case law, statutes, rules, and regulations regarding child support. Knowledge of legal techniques and the basic concepts of American Jurisprudence and of the formats utilized in the preparation of legal documents.
Skill:

Ability:
Display appropriate courtroom demeanor. Build client relationship Negotiation skills and persuasive ability Utilize a problem-solving approach Litigate using innovative techniques Must be able to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations Identify and resolve legal and supervisory issues, including Agency leadership as appropriate. Must be able to handle a high volume of work and stressful situations. Selective Preference(s) Juris Doctorate Degree and admission to the State Bar of Arizona. This position is required to travel/drive on state business; a current AZ driver's license is required.
