•Victims' rights is a consistently growing and unique area of law. Attorneys practicing in this area often address issues of first impression and guide the formation of victims' rights laws, rules and procedure. LSCVA is seeking an experienced attorney familiar with leading hearings (direct, cross, open/close, etc) and who is able to argue novel areas of law that have little to no established caselaw, up to the AZ Supreme Court as needed. If you enjoy creative, novel arguments, this may be the position for you. Our team members are highly invested in outcomes that provide a voice to and healing for our clients. An attorney in this role works a 40-hour workweek, except for occasional longer hours when a case is in trial or otherwise requires more attention, for example when writing an appellate brief on a short deadline. Compensation for the Staff Attorney position begins at $85,000 per year and increases commensurate with training and experience related to the required job duties and level at which the applicant is hired. Levels generally follow as listed below: Staff Attorney I, no experience to three years of experience as an attorney in this field Staff Attorney II, at least four years of experience as an attorney in this field Staff Attorney III, at least eight years of experience as an attorney in this field Staff Attorney IV, at least thirteen years of experience as an attorney in this field LSCVA offers a generous PTO plan (vacation, sick and personal leave) starting at 31 days off per year for full time employees and 12.5 paid holidays. Ideal Candidates will have:
Knowledge of dynamics of domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking; Strong understanding of the criminal justice process; Experience working in a law office and/or nonprofit. Staff Attorney - full time
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited university; Licensed to practice law in the state of Arizona and in good standing with the State Bar; Demonstrated excellence in legal writing and research; Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently; Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel statewide; Computer literacy; Public presentation and speaking skills; Demonstrated ability to complete tasks within established time frames; Demonstrated problem solving, creative/ analytic thinking skills, and organization skills; Excellent written, oral communication and listening skills; Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced environment with frequent stressful situations dealing with the aftermath of crime.
Job Duties:
Provide direct legal representation for victim clients in criminal courts and protective orders cases; Attend hearings with client or on behalf of client; Work closely with the Victim Advocate and other staff on client issues and referrals; Facilitate participation in criminal justice and other public proceedings arising from the crime; Develop, maintain, and update relevant case law and subject matter in case files; Maintain confidentiality and privacy of victim clients; Provide information about the criminal justice process and information about victim rights; Provide legal advice about protective order concerns and other overlapping legal concerns stemming from the crime; Assist with intervention with employers, landlords, academic institutions, and creditors; Write and file motions/pleadings on behalf of the project client; Facilitate/Participate in community outreach with other victim service agencies; Complete required timesheets, reports, and statistics; Assistance in recovering property that was retained as evidence; Compiling restitution claims and arguing restitution requests in court; Obtain police reports, court recordings and other tangible items related to case preparation; Other duties as necessary
