Position OverviewWe are seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join our litigation team focused on Education Law matters. The successful candidate will handle a diverse caseload, support trial preparation, draft pleadings and motions, and work closely with partners to deliver effective legal representation while maintaining high professional and ethical standards. This role offers growth opportunities for an attorney committed to litigation and client service.
Key ResponsibilitiesManage a docket of defense litigation matters from intake through resolution, including case assessment and strategy development.
Perform thorough legal research and draft clear, persuasive pleadings, motions, briefs and legal memoranda.
Conduct and respond to discovery, prepare and review interrogatories, requests for production and requests for admissions.
Participate in witness preparation, take and defend depositions, and support trial preparation and strategy.
Appear in court for hearings, status conferences, and trials as needed, under the supervision of partners.
Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, explain legal options, and manage expectations.
Collaborate with partners and colleagues on complex litigation issues and help mentor junior associates and paralegals.
Support firm business development activities, including client pitches, proposals, and contributing to thought leadership.
Maintain accurate time and matter records and meet billable hour expectations while managing priorities efficiently.
Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and case law impacting defense litigation practice.
QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in the hiring jurisdiction (required).1+ years of litigation experience, preferably in defense practice (insurance defense, corporate defense, or related fields).Demonstrated experience in legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and courtroom advocacy; trial experience preferred.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent legal writing and oral advocacy abilities.
Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines, prioritize workload, and work independently and as part of a team.
Exceptional client service skills and professional judgment when advising clients and interacting with opposing counsel and courts.
Proficiency with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, Lexis) and litigation support software; comfortable with document management and e-billing systems.
High ethical standards, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality work under pressure.
