Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Legal Counsel and Compliance:
    Provide timely, comprehensive legal counsel and guidance on labor and employment issues, particularly regarding California employment law compliance.
  • Policy and Procedure Oversight:
    Advise on and assist in the drafting, revising, and reviewing of HR policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Risk Management:
    Keep senior management informed of significant labor and employment decisions, new legislation, and regulatory changes affecting the company's operations and policies.
  • Training and Development:
    Provide training to the Human Resources team and business leaders on employment laws, including ADA, Title VII, FMLA, workplace safety, and workers' compensation.
  • Research and Investigation:
    Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to develop informed guidance on employment-related topics, including working conditions and safety requirements. Handle internal investigations, respond to employment-related claims, demand letters, and administrative complaints.
  • Litigation Management:
    Assist in the management of various litigation and dispute resolution matters; coordinate with external legal counsel as needed.
  • Legal Strategy Development:
    Support the broader legal team in formulating strategies to align legal approaches with business objectives.
  • Strategic Business Support:
    Develop a deep understanding of the company's business, industry trends, and competitive landscape. Provide legal support to various business initiatives on an as-needed basis.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited, top-tier law school.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of corporate legal experience, preferably in a large law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, including experience managing wage and hour, class action/PAGA and OSHA matters.
We're seeking a dynamic and skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our growing legal team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work on complex labor and employment, litigation and compliance matters in a fast-paced, innovative e-commerce environment. The role is essential in supporting the company's commitment to fair employment practices and compliance. As Senior Legal Counsel, you will work independently and proactively across multiple teams, providing critical legal counsel, insights, and strategic advice on labor and employment matters.
Mental Functions:
Decisions may affect a work unit or area within a department. May contribute to business and operational decisions that affect the department. This position performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to supervisor's guidelines.
Physical Functions:
Sitting required 90% of the time. Walking and standing required 5% of the time respectively. No heavy lifting required. Constant keyboarding and telephone usage.
