Job Description

Overview We are a small civil litigation firm primarily engaged in complex construction contract litigation in state and federal courts. Other areas of practice include local government law, public interest law and appeals. Most of our cases involve repeat clients who have been with us for years. We are seeking a recent California Bar passer who is highly motivated and wants to be in court and win with integrity. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner who can work on multiple cases concurrently from inception to resolution with supervision and input from experienced attorneys. This position offers an opportunity to work in a fast paced law office environment and learn what law school did not teach you about the practice of law. Finally, and most importantly, we are looking for someone who is professional, personable, and eager to be part of a small, close knit, energetic, and collaborative team. Responsibilities Case prosecution from inception to resolution Factual and legal analysis Preparation of pleadings, discovery and motions Proofreading for accuracy and clarity Effective communications with clients and opposing counsel Active participation in depositions and hearings Trial preparation, presentation and advocacy Enforcement of judgments Accurate, diligent and fair time tracking for billing Qualifications Admitted to practice law in California in the last 12 months Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Self-starter, able to think critically and act decisively Organized, dependable, accurate and detail-oriented Eager to learn new skills and take the initiative on cases Manage timelines and prioritization of workload and know when to ask for direction Able to work well against multiple and shifting priorities and deadlines "Can-do" attitude with a high sense of urgency Must be Team Player who seeks opportunities to add value with job accomplishments
