Assistant County Attorney

Job Responsibilities:

Provide legal services to the Department of Human Services (DHS) in all aspects of dependency and neglect cases and appeals, delinquency cases, child support, adult protection, and various administrative matters. Train and partner with DHS caseworkers to ensure effective case management and representation. Prosecute dependency and neglect cases, representing Montrose County in child support enforcement. Draft and respond to motions; research legal issues; analyze cases; prepare cases for hearings and present evidence including witness testimony at various hearings which may include but are not limited to, adjudicatory trials and termination of parental rights trials. Research and prepare appellate briefs for the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court. Provide legal services to assigned County departments and the Board of Commissioners, which may include research, all aspects of litigation, policy review, and general legal advice regarding current issues under consideration by the County.

Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Admission to the Colorado State Bar and in good standing. Experience in child welfare law, including dependency and neglect cases, is preferred. Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
