Overview The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department for Children and Families, Family Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will be responsible for representing the Department for Children and Families before the Human Services Board. Description The responsibilities of this position include litigating Family Division cases before the Vermont Superior Courts and representing the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board. Other duties include contract review, related administrative legal work, and training family service workers in all aspects of the litigation process. Travel across the state will be required. Located in Waterbury, the AAG will be responsible for handling litigation in Vermont Superior Courts, Family Division. Compensation This Assistant Attorney General position is an exempt full-time position. Salary and benefits will be based upon qualifications and experience in accordance with the State of Vermont Attorney Pay Plan. Minimum Requirements Candidates must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in. Preference will be given to applicants with three years of relevant experience, especially in Vermont, but newly admitted attorneys are welcome to apply. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills and be capable of working as part of a team. Candidates must be willing to travel and work independently, but within the structure of a government legal team. Self-reliance, IT skills and knowledge of state and federal mental health law, regulations and policies are a plus.
