Job Description

The Court Advocate provides direct service advocacy to victims of violent crime. This includes crisis intervention, information and referral, crime compensation, and direct court advocacy. The advocate will work with judges, courthouse personnel, Dept. of Children's & Family services, The Office of State Attorney, 20th Judicial circuit, and other judicial or law enforcement personnel, and local providers. The advocate will be responsible for collecting statistical data from the department, making sure it is entered departmentally, and appropriately sorted and forwarded to the next appropriate database.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attend first appearance hearings as scheduled
  • Provide crisis intervention for victims of crime
  • Provide information about the court system to victims
  • Provide information referral for victims of crime
  • Accompany victims to depositions, hearings, trials, appointments as necessary
  • Inform victims about Crimes Compensation and Restitution and maintain liaison position as necessary between State of Florida and crime victims who are filing for crime compensation
  • Maintain files on advocacy provided to victims
QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in related field or commensurate education and /or experience
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system
  • Working knowledge of community resources
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability/willingness to work as a team member with minimal supervision
  • Bi-lingual preferred

Interstate Background Screen Pay:
$16.00 - $17.00 per hour
